Cobra CLAWS and Neo Viper were 2 of the coolest Cobra Trooper designs that I remember from my Child Hood mainly because they both looked down right menacing and were packed to the gills with detail. now unlike neo viper, Cobra CLAWS had a shitty figure that looked nothing like his card art which is a shame because I mean look at this guy! Also like the Neo Viper they were Biologically enhanced Soldiers able to withstand any environment. CLAWS were heavy troopers if you can't tell by how cut this mug is. they came packaged with the Heat Viper Cannon which is a naughty looking weapon by anyone's standards. But there isn't really art of him anywhere and it seems as though people forgot this character even existed. there are plenty of the Cobra Claws Commander who looked like a Red Shadows member but none of his Solders. so here you go
his head sculpt always reminded me of Krake in a way, actually the toy looks a great deal like Krake all around.
there were many repaint, 7 in all. but 2 specific construction types. the 2002 version that was made like the modern CORPS trooper that I own 4 of, and the O-ring version available single carded and in two packs in 2004. I want the O-ring version because it looks closer to the character art and looks like it will function much better than the 4 brick CLAWS I own.
here is a description of him:
C.L.A.W.S is an acronym for Combat Light Armored Weapons Specialist, the troops were a close cousin of sorts to the HEAT, Flak, and SAW Vipers of the previous era. They functioned in a more generic role, filling the ranks with both missile launchers and heavy machine guns. Seems like a cost saving move on the part of Cobra Command, cutting down on the number of specialist types, and broadening equipment and training among a larger group. They’re also equipped with high tech light armor that serves to protect them when going up against heavily armed vehicles. Imagine that, a Cobra trooper afforded a little protection from enemy fire.
